Seychelles and Mauritius have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across a range of priority areas at the 14th Session of the Seychelles–Mauritius Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, held in Balaclava, Mauritius. The three-day session brought together senior officials and technical experts from both countries to review progress in bilateral cooperation, assess existing legal instruments and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
Since the previous session, tangible progress has been made in several areas, including the signing of bilateral legal instruments during the State Visit of President Dr Patrick Herminie to Mauritius in March 2026. Cooperation has also advanced in education, investment promotion, fire and rescue services, fisheries, agriculture and culture.
Both Seychelles and Mauritius underscored the importance of translating bilateral agreements and decisions into concrete and measurable outcomes for the benefit of their citizens. The two sides agreed to maintain momentum, including through the operationalisation of mechanisms established under existing agreements, the conclusion of outstanding legal instruments and stronger coordination among relevant institutions.
As neighbouring Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Seychelles and Mauritius share common priorities and challenges, including climate change, maritime security, food security, economic resilience and digital transformation. These shared priorities provide opportunities to exchange expertise, strengthen technical cooperation and develop practical solutions.
The 14th Session concluded with the signing of the Minutes of Meeting by Ambassador Ian Madeleine, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora of Seychelles and Ambassador Janmajaising Bissoondoyal, Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Mauritius during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade in Port Louis. The outcomes of the Session are expected to provide renewed impetus to the longstanding partnership between Seychelles and Mauritius and advance agreed commitments for the mutual benefit of both countries.
The 15th Session of the Joint Commission will be held in Seychelles in 2028, providing an opportunity for both sides to take stock of progress and further advance the bilateral partnership.
