On April 14, 2026, Somalia’s Ministry of Defense announced that 27 Al-Shabaab fighters were neutralized during a large-scale military operation carried out in Jubaland State, in the south of the country. The operation, conducted with the support of international partners who carried out airstrikes, targeted the districts of Jilib, Xagar, and Afmadow in the Lower Juba and Middle Juba regions. Authorities said weapons and explosives intended for attacks against civilians were seized. Security operations are still ongoing in the area to track down the remaining militants.
