UBA : Emmanuel Nnorom Succeeds Tony Elumelu as Group Chairman

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has announced the retirement of its Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, and the appointment of Emmanuel Nnorom as his successor.

Tony Elumelu will step down from the Board of Directors on August 21, 2026, after reaching the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) 12-year tenure limit for non-executive directors. At its meeting on July 6, 2026, the Board accepted his retirement and elected Emmanuel Nnorom as the new Chairman of the Board, effective August 21, 2026.

The Board expressed its profound gratitude to Tony Elumelu for his visionary leadership. Under his stewardship, UBA evolved into a pan-African financial institution operating in 20 African countries, with a presence in four international financial centres: the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and the United Arab Emirates. Today, the bank serves more than 50 million customers.
