Zimbabwe : MPs vote to extend presidential term from 5 to 7 years

Zimbabwe parliament has approved, by a large majority, constitutional amendments delaying the 2028 elections to 2030 and extending President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s mandate by two years. The bill also proposes changing the presidential selection system from direct universal suffrage to an election by lawmakers. It still requires final approval by the Senate before becoming law.
