Egypt – Family Justice : New Personal Status Law Bill Upheld

In Egypt, the government has confirmed that the draft Personal Status Law remains under consideration, dismissing reports that it had been withdrawn from Parliament. Introduced as part of the reforms championed by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the bill seeks to modernize family justice by speeding up the resolution of disputes related to marriage, child custody, and alimony. Although it has already been approved by the Council of Ministers, the draft law continues to spark public debate, while Al-Azhar and the Coptic Orthodox Church have submitted reservations and observations ahead of its parliamentary review.
