The international airport in Niamey was targeted on 18 June 2026 in an armed attack that left 11 soldiers and 2 civilians dead, according to the Nigerien Ministry of Defence. The early-morning assault also resulted in 4 injuries, the neutralisation of 22 attackers, and the arrest of around twenty suspects, authorities said.
