Zimbabwe: Senate Passes Constitutional Amendment Extending President’s Term

Following the National Assembly, Zimbabwe’s Senate has overwhelmingly passed the constitutional amendment extending President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term by two years. The head of state’s mandate, originally due to expire in 2028, will now run until 2030. The amendment, which also changes the electoral system for presidential and parliamentary elections, now awaits presidential assent before it can enter into force.
