Algeria has assumed the rotating presidency of the African Union Peace and Security Council for a one-month term beginning August 1, 2026. During its mandate, Algiers will prioritize the crises in the Sahel, Sudan and South Sudan, as well as efforts to combat terrorism across the continent.
