Zambia: 8.7 million voters head to the polls for the general elections

About 8.7 million Zambian voters went to the polls on August 13, 2026, to elect the president, members of Parliament and local representatives. The vote took place across 226 constituencies and 1,858 wards, with incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema seeking a new term. A majority of more than 50% of valid votes was required to win in the first round.
