Nigeria is facing a new public health challenge following the confirmation of an Ebola case, amid an outbreak affecting several African countries. The situation raises critical questions about epidemiological surveillance, the preparedness of health systems, and regional cooperation. To analyse the risks and the lessons Africa can draw from this situation, we welcome Dr Francis Ohanyido, Founding Director-General of the West African Institute of Public Health (WAIPH).
