Business : Maroc Telecom has surpassed the 76 million customer mark

Since the start of 2026, the African telecommunications sector has continued to undergo rapid transformation, driven by the digital revolution and the strong growth of digital services. Against this backdrop, Maroc Telecom has consolidated its position as a pan-African leader by surpassing the 76 million customer mark in the first quarter of 2026.

Maroc Telecom is solidifying its position as a pan-African telecommunications leader, maintaining steady progress amid the continent’s sweeping digital revolution. Early in 2026, the group exceeded 76 million customers, a major milestone. With the rapid expansion of Mobile Money services, soaring data consumption, and the accelerating digital transformation across Africa, Maroc Telecom has emerged as a key technological driver. This significant performance occurs as Africa’s telecommunications landscape navigates the maturity of its established markets alongside the swift growth in emerging regions.

“Maroc Telecom, as a Moroccan and African company, has a role to play first and foremost as a critical infrastructure operator, in order to guarantee sovereignty, resilience, and continuity of service for its users, but also as a leading technology player in Morocco and across Africa to support businesses in their transformation. Whether in cloud-related matters, cybersecurity, or more broadly in the use of digital technologies within companies.”

The performance of the Maroc Telecom Group reflects this growth momentum: 54.3 million mobile customers in its West and Central African subsidiaries, an 8.5% increase in revenues, and consolidated turnover reaching 9.32 billion dirhams in the first quarter of 2026.

“Today, as everyone knows, digital usage is expanding rapidly worldwide. Morocco and the other countries of the African continent are also affected by this trend, whether through artificial intelligence, connected devices, financial services, or digital platforms.”

Beyond the figures, Maroc Telecom is strengthening its pan-African strategy around digital sovereignty, artificial intelligence, and fintech. The group is intensifying its investments in infrastructure and cybersecurity to support the continent’s digital transformation and meet the growing demand for connectivity.

“It is also a matter of governance, sovereignty, security, and compliance. All of this makes Maroc Telecom a privileged player, enabling it to serve as a hub for Morocco and for Africa, and to develop an entire trusted, compliant, and secure digital ecosystem in order to accelerate the digital transformation of Morocco and the African continent more broadly.”

By early 2025, Africa’s internet user base had grown to almost 670 million, with a penetration rate surpassing 40%. This growth underscores the significant potential of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) sector, particularly in countries like Morocco. The Moroccan ICT market is projected to reach US$7.40 billion by 2026. A key player in this sector is Maroc Telecom, established in 1998, which operates in 11 countries and is 22% owned by the Kingdom of Morocco.
