Chad : State of emergency declared in the Lake Province for a period of 20 days

The Chadian government on May 7, 2026, declared a state of emergency in the Lake Province for a period of twenty days following deadly attacks attributed to Boko Haram that targeted a military base in early May. The decree, issued in accordance with the Constitution, grants local authorities expanded powers to secure the area under the supervision of several ministries. This exceptional measure aims to address the resurgence of violence in the Lake Chad Basin region.
