Africa : Mauritania’s Sidi Ould Tah has been elected President of the African Development Bank

Mauritania’s Sidi Ould Tah has been elected new President of the African Development Bank. His appointment comes during the AfDB’s General Assemblies being held from 26 to 30 May in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

He succeeds the Nigerian Akinwumi Adesina, who spent 10 years at the head of the institution. Mr Sidi Ould Tah was elected by AfDB governors for a five-year term, renewable once only. He was chosen ahead of Senegal’s Amadou Hott, Zambia’s Samuel Munzele Maimbo, Chad’s Mahamat Abbas Tolli and South Africa’s Bajabulile Swazi Tshabalala.
