The United Nations Security Council has extended the mandate of UNMISS until April 2027, while reducing its personnel to 12,500 troops and 2,101 police officers. Adopted by 13 votes with two abstentions, the resolution maintains the mission’s role in preventing a relapse into conflict and monitoring the peace agreement, while also calling for guaranteed humanitarian access and the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers in South Sudan.
